EnBro’s old website dating back to 2012 was showing its age. As a major 600+ strong walking group it wasn’t getting much of an online presence against a great number of competing groups. It’s method of downloading a membership form and posting or emailing it in wasn’t inviting.
The committee members tasked with refreshing their website wanted more, bigger pictures and less words. To be aimed primarily at new members rather than existing ones. It took time to show what could be done and for them to refine and sharpen their their message.
Even so it was only two months from concept to launch using WordPress.
We were lucky that the administrator of the old website was very co-operative. We were able to transfer in the old site so smoothly that no-one should have noticed the transfer. This allowed us to move in the staging/development website and test out the application & contact forms before flicking the switch on May 29th replacing the the old with the new.
We have set up redirections so the indexed page urls of the old website point to the equivelent new website pages. The next step is to improve its visibility. First with some SEO. We also are beginning work in increasing the number of inward links from just five.
A long way to go before the website is where it should be – but we are firmly on the road. You can find the website at https://enbro.org.uk
